Blackberry unveils smartphones created by Foxconn

BARCELONA-Struggling Canadian handset maker Blackberry unmasked Tuesday its first smartphones built by new Taiwanese partner Foxconn since it fights to recuperate from huge losses.

Blackberry showed off two devices to greatly help it claw right back market share in a fresh five-year partnership with Foxconn.

“We are here to compete also to regain some lost ground prior to the end of the entire year, ” Blackberry leader John Chen told reporters at the Feb. 24-27 World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

Blackberry reported a $4. 4 billion (3. 2-billion-euro) loss in the 3rd quarter of 2013 last December but cheered investors by announcing it had been teaming up with Foxconn, that is also an integral supplier to a chief rival, Apple Inc.

First handset

The initial handset may be the Q20, which includes Blackberry’s trademark physical keyboard, and is usually to be released later this season.

The next, the Z2, has touchscreen and is targeted at the Indonesian market, going for sale in April for under $200, Chen said.

Now joined with Foxconn, that is the marketing name for Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Blackberry will focus its comeback fight on trying to sell phones to its conventional marketplace, the organization sector, that he said.

“Our turnaround strategy would be to concentrate on enterprise, ” Chen said. “We are always referred to as the main in security. ”

The Blackberry boss said that he aimed to boost the company’s liquidity position this fiscal year prior to making a go back to profit in the next year.
